Parent Information Center (PIC) is a program offered to develop positive relationships with families and to provide parents with skills and resources to raise healthy, happy, educated children.
PIC offers several classes and programs to better parent-child relationships. PIC also shares educational and resourceful website links that will allow your child to expand their education past the classroom setting. Check on all of our upcoming classes through our monthly newsletter here!
November is right around the corner and it’s time to fill your monthly calendar with PTO meetings, sporting events and who’s cooking the Turkey! Don’t forget to fit in Parent Information Center classes and programs!
The following PIC classes are offered the end of October and all of November:
Early Childhood Love & Logic
Our children do not come with owners manuals, but this educational series teaches skills and strategies for effective parenting.
This is what you will learn: * how to put an end to whining and arguing
* practical tips for handling misbehavior in public * tips for getting your kids to behave without having to repeat yourself or raise your voice * how to make parenting rewarding and fun!
We meet every Thursday morning from 9:30am-11:00am for 4 weeks beginning October 27th at Sharon Lutheran Church (use North door).
Parents Morning Out
Do you ever wonder if other parents are feeling the same way you are? Dealing with the same issues you are? Do you wonder if other children sleep through the night, have tantrums, fight with their siblings? At Parents Morning Out parents discuss these issues and more. Parents share highs and lows, encourage each other, and build friendships. Please join us for a morning of coffee, discussion and building connections with other parents.
October: 24—The Nurturing Parent 31—Catch Your Child Being Good
November: 7—Raising a Thankful Child 14—Let’s Work Together! Chores & Your Family 21—Healthy Meals for Families (Guest: Jean Noland from NDSU Extension) 28— Parents Need an Energy Boost Too!

Trained facilitator, Carrie Knutson, will teach the characteristics of each personality type and how best to relate to other personality types. You will better understand yourself, your family and friends. Each participant will take a personality assessment and receive the Real Colors book to take home.
This class is held Monday, November 7th, from 6:00pm—8:00pm at Lake Agassiz Elementary Library.
The Effects of Media and Teen Violence
The Effects of Media and Teen Violence will be taught by middle school principal and parent, Kevin Ohnstad. Kevin will share the culture today and its change due to media exploitation of violence. Violence sells, but what are the costs in terms of the unreality of video games and the numbing of emotions? Learn firsthand from Kevin things you can do to inform and protect your child.
This class will meet Monday, November 14, from 6:00pm—8:00pm at Valley Middle School Library.
