Importance of Eye Exams

Have you scheduled your child’s comprehensive eye exam yet? Even from a young age, getting your child in to check their eyes is very important! The American Optometric Association says, ”Early diagnosis and treatment of eye and vision problems are important for maintaining good vision and eye health, and when possible, preventing vision loss.” The eye doctor will do more than just check your child for their vision. They can determine certain diseases and make sure your child’s eyes work together.

According to Gary Heiting, OD and Jennifer Palombi, OD, “Vision is closely linked to the learning process. Children with undetected vision problems often will have trouble with their schoolwork. Many times, children will not complain of vision problems simply because they don’t know what “normal” vision looks like.”

No matter what the age, eye exams are important to our health. The American Optometric Association recommends that every child have a professional eye exam shortly after birth, by six months of age and again just prior to entering school.
